ITEM DI42…WHAT
TO EXPECT THE FIRST YEAR Eisenberg, Murkoff, Hathaway $4
From the authors of the 9.6-million-copy
bestselling What to Expect When You're
Expecting, here is What to Expect the
First Year (over 5.6 million copies in print), the most comprehensive guide
available on the next phase of parenting-newborn care. Written with the same
reassuring, lively authority as What to
Expect When You're Expecting, the book is organized for ease of reference,
leading nervous parents from month to month, check-up to check-up, even feeding
to feeding. The chapters on each month address basic expectations of behavior
and growth, as well as special concerns and decisions --from finding the
perfect pediatrician to getting baby on a sleep-through-the-night schedule to
choosing toys, shoes, and diapers. Equally
important are the emotional issues a new baby raises for every member of the
family --these are covered thoughtfully and thoroughly. Additional chapters cover special subjects
such as first aid, traveling with a baby, premature babies, adopted babies, and
much more.
AWARDS:
*Winner of the 1994 Parenting "Hall of
Fame" Award from Child Magazine
*Selection of the Book-of-the-Month Club

Gardens Family Book Service
ITEM ZQ00…NEVER SIT WHERE THE CAT
SAT Gary Dunford $9
"They laughed when Gary Dunford sat down to write
gags and gossip for the Toronto Sun.
Three years later, they're still laughing!" What is the Toronto Sun?
According to Dunford he received a memo from the
publisher explaining,
"The Ottawa
Citizen is read by the people who run the country. .
And the Toronto Sun
is read by the people who don't give a damn who runs
the country, as long as she's got big boobs. " Lots
of off-the-wall commentary on Canada ,
on politics, on celebrities, interspersed with trivia and jokes ranging from
the slightly bizarre to the slightly more bizarre.
This
is a 1980 softcover book, well-thumbed through and worn, which gathers up a
selection of Dunford’s best 1979 and 1980 columns. These columns offer something for everybody,
including all of the Kangaroo Poets who operate this bookstore – JDC liked the
anti-cat columns; other Kangaroo Poets who have perused the book have their own
favourites – Natt had a Mia Farrow thing like Dunford’s Farrah thing; K’lakokum [who was a candidate against Sewell
in 1972 and 1974 elections] liked the Sewell columns; old cop Hans cracked up
over the goose investigation; Andrea loved the parrot jokes – you’ll find your
own favourite columns, too.
TRIVIA
QUESTION:
Which
Kangaroo Poet has been quoted twice in Dunford’s column?
