[AD]ITEM AD00…THIS LAND IS NOT FOR SALE: CANADA’S ORIGINAL PEOPLE AND THEIR LAND: A SAGA OF NEGLECT, EXPLOITATION, AND CONFLICT Hugh McCullum $15

This book is about Indian, Inuit, and Metis land claims and Northern development. It is about energy, government, and the church. Already that covers a lot of ground and makes us tired just thinking about the complexity of the task - especially because it changes every time we pick up a newspaper or turn on the radio. It's also a book about people. About Native people who live on reserves, in towns, and in Arctic settlements. And about white people. It's about politicians who are committed to their constituents and politicians who are knaves, committed to themselves. It's about industrialists and businessmen who act predictably and use Canada's colonial approach to the North for multi-national profiteering. It's about church people who use the liberating teachings of the gospel to help free men and women, and it's about church people who use the institution's waning power and prestige to stubbornly maintain the status quo for 'our Natives.' It's a microcosm of Canada.
