[CB]ITEM CA54...BILDER AUS DEN DEUTSCHEN KOLONIEN $700 obo mit einer Kolonial Geschichts Tabelle [Onno Behrends Teetrinker, circa 1932] series #11 to #20, no cards missing

Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon presents Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce and Lionel Atwill.  Holmes and Watson are assigned to rescue the inventor of a secret weapon from the clutches of Prof. Moriarty and the Nazis.  The secret weapon is a new bombsight which could hasten the outcome of World War II, and both the Allies and the Nazis are in a desperate race to secure it for themselves. Super sleuth Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and his trusty assistant Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) are assigned to find the kidnapped scientist who developed the secret weapon, only to be foiled by Holmes' nemesis, the evil Professor Moriarty (Lionel Atwill). Based on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story THE ADVENTURE OF THE DANCING MEN, this Holmes case transplants the Victorian sleuth into the realm of WWII espionage and is also the first of the films to introduce Dennis Hoey as Scotland Yard detective Inspector Lestrade.

Bingo Trivia Game Question A102:

A real-life French detective who was a contemporary of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and who may have been in part a model for Sherlock Holmes, was sentenced to life in prison -- to be served nights only -- after being convicted of murder.  This detective used the same deductive processes as Holmes.  When assigned to investigate a particularly baffling murder, he discovered that what he had thought to be a nightmare, had actually happened, and that he himself was the murderer.  He turned himself in.  He served his sentence for 51 years -- at night only -- and during the day continued to solve cases for the St. Adresse Police Department.  Name this detective. [3 words; 6,2,3 letters, no SP]

Trivia:

Greyhound racing is depicted on Egyptian tombs, is mentioned in Proverbs 30, and is referred to in the same sentence in Shakespeare’s Henry V from whence Sherlock Holmes derives his cry:  the games afoot!

Eldridge Cleaver was the Peace and Freedom Party candidate for USA President, and the permanent Minister of Information for the Black Panthers.  This book was written while Cleaver was an inmate of Folsom State Prison.  He writes about the forces that shaped his life and that subsequently molded American destiny.  He talks about the Christian concept of love and the means of furthering the Christ-consciousness; how America has failed Christ through racism, hypocrisy, idolatry [God AND the flag; God AND America – contrary to the first commandment], Viet Nam; and he contrasts this with the insurrection in his own life – he deliberately became a rapist, using rape as a symbolic and cultural tool [just as God used the Old Testament prophets as demonstrators:  Hosea married a whore; Isaiah feasted on excrement; Jeremiah ran around naked].  This is a spiritual, intellectual and cultural autobiography.

OKAA0532...extract from CHRISTIANS, IMMIGRANTS, AND THE TAXI INDUSTRY [from South of Tuk, 2004]

The shape-shifting reptiles who financed and manipulated both sides into the conflagration now remembered as World War Two, had an agenda which was determined to assault the Christ-consciousness, and succeeded.  Over 123 million Christians perished in the holocaust.  To use the word holocaust for any lesser group, such as 16 million Japanese, 300,000 homosexuals, or 274,000 Jews who also perished, is a deliberate perversion of both connotation and denotation of that word.  Christians were the target of WWII -- the reptile perpetrators of the War achieved their initial aim.  Following the cessation of military hostilities, however, the war against Christ-in-the-mind did not end, but took other forms, one of which was the creation of the human rights industry as a branch of the propaganda war for control of men’s minds.

It began, as a diversion, with Zionism and Nuremberg.

Zionism hates Judaism because Judaism forgives all debts and grudges – financial, social, political, racial, slavery – every seventh year; allowing repeated new starts in the trek towards both material and spiritual abundance, the precipitations of love.  Zionism incarnates hate and insists on perpetuating fear.  Judaism and Christianity forgive and forget hate and fear; Zionism remembers, resurrects and creates hate and fear, in its role as one of many minions for the shape-shifting reptiles who remain interim custodians of this planet.

An individual experiences hurt in any of its forms, only as an individual.

UNDER THE SS SHADOW by Traugott Vogel

This book was banned by eBay in 2006 and became the subject of a controversy to which we devoted two issues of South of Tuk (Issues #130 and 131).  The controversy ended five months later when we received a written apology from eBay, but nothing has been done about the hidden censorship which persists on eBay, and elsewhere, even though it is in violation of the United States Constitution, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  This book is basically an autobiography of Baptist Pastor Traugott.  The first half of the book deals with Traugott’s personal experience of Nazi brainwashing techniques used on German youth.  Membership in the Hitler Jugend was compulsory to all Germans beginning on their 10th birthday, and meetings were deliberately held on Sundays at the same time as church services, in order to keep young people away from spiritual forces which were opposed to Naziism.  [Mere membership should not be held to stigmatize the few old survivors:  membership was compulsory.  Amongst others, this applies to the current Pope.] The second half of the book outlines Traugott’s experiences as a Baptist pastor dealing with traumatic post-war consequences of Naziism, and then his experiences in America as a co-worker with Billy Graham.

MUSHROOMS AND FUNGI by Moira Savonius

In South of Tuk #12, Kangaroo Poet Norm wrote an article about the sacred mushroom in the art of Norval Morrisseau.  In Issue #59, Kangaroo Poet JHM wrote an article about the experience of colour under hallucination, such hallucination made possible by LSD, peyote, and the sacred mushroom.  In Issue #135, Kangaroo Poet K’lakokum discussed the magic mushroom in Morrisseau’s Warrior Finds Soma [24x 34n, 1979, catalogue raisonne number muaa]

The amanita muscaria which is believed to be the sacred or magic mushroom is described on pages 32 to 34 of this book.  It is used by the shaman to enter The House of Invention.  From the 9th to 13th century in Europe, it was widely believed that what Eve ate was not an apple, but the sacred mushroom.  This may have started as a Catholic device to keep people away from a consciousness-raising substance.  The Aztecs [who used it in their spiritual rituals] called it nanacatyl.  This book has 104 colour illustrations depicting the entire world of mushrooms and fungi. 1973 hardcover ISBN 0706401913 published by Octopus Books Limited London W1, printed by Mandarin Publishers Ltd. [AI]ITEM AI01...TIMON OF ATHENS [SHAKESPEARE] ed. by H.J. Oliver $8

[AI]ITEM YB27…TRAGEDY OF ROMEO & JULIET ed.by J.A.Bryant $4

Presents the original text of Shakespeare's play side by side with a modern version, discusses the author and the theater of his time, and provides quizzes and other study activities.  Set during five of the most intensely dramatic days ever portrayed, ROMEO AND JULIET was probably written in 1594 or 1595, and first published in a 1597 edition, as transcribed by actors who had performed it. Other editions appeared later, but even the more authoritative versions, such as that of 1599--probably drawn from Shakespeare's own manuscript copies--lack the detailed stage directions present in the actors' transcription; thus, modern editions incorporate several sources. ROMEO AND JULIET is among the most oft performed of Shakespeare's works, and it has been among the most beloved since its earliest days on the stage. Though the title page of the 1597 edition declares that ROMEO AND JULIET had been performed and enjoyed many times prior to its publication, the first extant direct record of the events of a production refer to a 1662 staging, in which the play was probably adapted or altered--adaption was particularly popular in the 17th century. One London stage ran different conclusions on alternative nights; audiences who went home glum on Friday could be uplifted by the play's ending if they returned on Saturday night. The story of ROMEO AND JULIET was derived by Shakespeare from many sources. The version most contemporary to his own was the 1562 poem "The Tragicall History of Romeus and Iuliet" by Arthur Brooke, which itself was an adaptation of a French piece by Pierre Boaistuau, which Boaistuau had adapted from the Italian. Indeed, aspects of the tragic story have recurred throughout Western literature since at least the third century. Shakespeare greatly intensified the pace by compressing a piece which had unfolded over the course of several months into the space of five days--a period in which much transpires at daybreak, including the famous balcony scene where Romeo declares, "But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?/It is the east, and Juliet is the sun." Romeo is forced to approach Juliet in secret because of the impassioned rivalry between his family, the Montagues--and Juliet's, the Capulets. Despite the intensity of their family's mutual disdain, the young lovers strive to marry. However, fate intervenes to keep them apart, and, when the Montagues and Capulets discover the folly of their ways, it's too late for Romeo and Juliet

1,000 years ago the Anasazi lived in New Mexico in an ingenious large-scale, urban, technological society centred around elaborate ritual, monumental building, unity consciousness and principles of peace.  They then disappeared suddenly about 700 years ago.  On August 16th and 17th, 1987, about 3,000 re-incarnations of these entities were drawn back to the ancient Mystery School in Chaco Canyon to meet with the ancient guardian spirits of the canyon to receive a message of ONE for the present time.  This book documents that event.

Merlin’s prophecies are embedded within Geoffrey of Monmouth’s 12th century History of the British Kings, which has now been confirmed to be a plagiarism of a far older Welsh document, moving the actual events from Wales and Scotland to England.  Nevertheless, the core of the prophesies has been preserved, providing prevision, in startling and accurate detail, to modern times.  This includes prediction of the Union of Scotland and England, the Industrial Revolution, quartz crystal technology, and oil development in the North Sea.  These predictions were published by Monmouth six centuries after they were made originally, and three centuries before Nostradamus repeated some of them.  The prophesies also embody a memory of the religion of Lemuria, brought to Wales by the Fryslan King At-Ur-Mu (the real King Arthur) after the North Sea Tsunami of 448 a.d. destroyed his own country.  Thus they are an esoteric text and metaphysical manual which links ancient Wales back to Atlantis and forward to modern Pleiadian thought.

Storkey puts the complex landscape of the woman's movement into perspective.  She discusses liberal feminism, Marxist feminism and radical feminism before turning to some Christian responses, focusing on those who deny that feminism has any Christian case and those who, on the contrary, have found in feminism a new awareness of their spirituality.  Finally, a 'third way' is presented, a biblically-rooted Christian feminism which reaches beyond the institutional church to all areas of life.

Long ago before the patriarchal period, in many places on Earth, the Goddess was worshipped. Circle of Stones draws us into a meditative experience of the lost Feminine and creates a space for us to consider our present lives from the eyes of women's ancient culture and ritual. Incorporating the most ancient symbol of spirituality — the circle of stones — Duerk weaves stories, dreams, and visions of women to lead each reader into a personal yet archetypal journey, posing the reflective question, "How might your life have been different if . . . ?" Circle of Stones is about discovering the power of the feminine and the core of our beings. It is rich with the history, myth and images of the collective consciousness of woman to guide us in our journey. Beautifully conveyed, it is art, poetry and metaphor: astonishingly simple, yet undeniably sublime. 1989 softcover, good condition.

This radically new study redefines the American artist Mary Cassat's status in the Parisian avant-garde and in American art, placing her work in the wider context of 19th century feminism and art theory.  Cassatt's art explores a New Woman's perspective on the spaces of modernity:  at the theatre, in the drawing-room and garden, in the studio.  Admired by Degas -- who invited her to show with the Impressionists in 1877 -- Cassatt's work reveals her profound study of Old Masters and keen responses to contemporary French and Spanish painters.  Griselda Pollock puts a new emphasis on Cassatt's interest in Manet and her influence on American collections of French modernism.  She also argues that Cassatt's experimentation with etching and pastel from the late 1880s enabled her to represent children and women without sentimentality but with a deepening awareness of a complex psychological charge.

[HM,AZ,DC]ITEM BA20…THE USES OF ENCHANTMENT Bruno Bettelheim $14

“Bettelheim has written a charming book about enchantment, a profound book about fairy tales....What is new, and exciting, is the warmth, humane and urgent, with which Bettelheim expounds fairy titles as aids to the child's growth, which he understands as a growth through conflicts, the chief conflict being Oedipal ...The Uses of Enchantment cannot enforce the use of fairy stories without a matrix of family security and social consensus; but at least it shows us how cunningly, how lovingly, the anonymous generations of 'a happier age' prepared their children for the challenges of life and guided them toward sexual, ethical health, once upon a time."

Quotes for Discussion:
“Beautiful girls are meant to be adored. After all they did not take on this form for nothing. But it is also necessary that such a one is able to handle her outer beauty by having inner beauty as well. The inner beauty consists of qualities such as graciousness, gentleness, kindness in speech and action. That is when she truly shines. A virtuous woman is beyond rubies. A man’s heart can safely trust in her.”

[AA,EO]ITEM AA45…WOMEN & POLITICS IN CANADA Heather MacIvor $15
For many years the severe under-representation of women in the institutions that forge Canadian public policy has been the subject of widespread discussion and debate, as have the various manifestations of inequality on the laws and policies themselves. MacIvor surveys this situation and the extent to which it is changing but offers as well a much broader approach to the subject, recognizing the impossibility of separating the roles played by women in politics from their part in Canadian society generally, MacIvor looks also at such topics as the structure of the economy, of the family and of popular culture. Women and Politics in Canada sets the stage for a discussion of the Canadian situation by exploring ideas about women in Western thought and the various feminist approaches that have arisen in response.
