WHEN A SPOUSE CHEATS
You might think that the question: "Is your wife driving you
crazy?" is sort of a funny, throw-away type of question. When you ask a husband if his wife drives him
crazy, he simply answers "You bet your sweet ass she does!" But when that wife is unfaithful, this
question takes on a whole new meaning.
It takes on a literal meaning.
We humans sometimes behave strangely.
As it
turns out, research shows that we - as a species - tend to become very similar to the other humans we hang out with. [Law of
Attraction]
For example, if you average the income of your five closest friends, in most cases you find that your income is close to an average of theirs. The same goes for physical health: average your five friends’ level of physical health, and you'll come pretty close to your own level. This effect happens unconsciously. You don’t think: "Oh, my friends make $50k a year, so I'm going to try to make around that amount." Nope. It happens without your awareness. Without your decision. Even without your permission, whether you want it to or not. This is the Principle of Vibration from the hermetic teachings.
It turns out we are far more influenced by others than we think or would care to admit.
You might now ask: “So, what in hell does this have to do with my wife cheating? How can this help me get over it, make sense of it all, and make smart decisions especially when this is the hardest thing I've ever had to go through in my entire life?"
Well, this hermetic principle explains your feelings, thoughts and behaviour -- it has everything to do with it! It is since you discovered your wife’s infidelity, that you aren’t thinking straight. You used to have a level head but now it seems your thoughts and feelings are all over the place. Your feelings are so intense at times that it almost seems like you're going nuts. Most victims of infidelity have this experience. But... why?
We ‘rub off’ on our associates to an incredible degree and the people we
surround ourselves with most frequently, also rub off on us. The person a married man surrounds himself with the most is his wife. If that wife is the person in the world that has the most influence on him, could it be that she is the source of his crazy feelings?
from our wife? Is she a bit nuts herself – at least temporarily -- and did this lead to her affair, which then knocked your emotional stability out of whack? You bet your sweet ass: yes, emotional states are contagious!
If your wife is in an unbalanced, crazy, unhealthy emotional state, it makes it likely that you're going to start feeling some of these emotions too. Realizing this - that there's not anything in particular wrong with you (even if your wife tries to convince you otherwise) and that the reason you're feeling not your normal self is in part because you've caught an ‘emotional bug’ from your wife, will really help you put things in perspective. It can also help you maintain control and poise as you deal with your wife's affair. And when you're going through the gut-wrenching, life-changing experience of finding out your wife was unfaithful, a little control and poise can go a long way in helping you find relief and recovery.
